A warmer start to the game this week as the ladies 1st XI hosted Romsey, which proved to be a goal fest for us!

It all began at around 2:20pm, when we rolled out of the changing rooms, kitted up and ready for action. Typically, Kate Black was late, and in her pure excitement to play hockey, she forgot her shirt in the changing rooms (what a salad). Luckily for Kate, last weeks cripple Jill was around to fetch said shirt and save the day.

After pushback, a lot happened in a very short amount of time and I cannot promise I remember all of it. 5 (ish) goals were scored in the first half by us, with some excellent assists from the self-proclaimed Assist Queen Eden Crook. Shortly after we had scored 2 or 3, it was Leah's time to shine. considering she had very little to do all game, you'd think Leah would manage a save or 2 when the time came. But no. She decided that less is more in the world of goalkeeping, and moving to stop the ball is overrated. The ball rolled past her right peg over the goal line, leaving the score at 5-1 heading into half time.

Jelly babies were consumed at half-time again, which is honestly the only reason I come back every week. A few wise words on tactics were shared before we started the second half.

The second half started strongly for Swans, and somehow I remembered how to play hockey again after several weeks of being fairly useless on the pitch. Hollie slotted away a further 2 goals to get herself a hattrick, and Liz got herself on the score sheet again with 5 this game. It would have been more if it weren't for Evie on the right post stealing Liz's goals.

Arguably the best moment of the game was Evie jumping over the ball that had been passed to her, then watching it roll off the side-line. Skill comes naturally to this team but we are so #blessed to have it. My goal drought finally ended after 7 weeks without a goal, and Ailsa found herself partaking in an attacking short corner, resulting in an assist for the centre back. The title of Deputy Assist Queen will be given to Ailsa at awards night because of this.

The game ended 12-1 to us, but credit must be given to Romsey for continuing to battle through to the end.

Post match teas at the pub went well, with Hollie receiving Player of the Match. In true pub fashion, there were lots of sausages everywhere and a weird frog game was played.

We go again Saturday 29th Feb away to Haslemere in a top of the table clash

Team: Leah, Ailsa, Lisa, Bev, Kate B, Kate T, Amy (1), Eden (1), Evie (2), Hollie (3), Liz (5)
