2. Training

Playing
Matches for men and ladies are on Saturdays. Mixed matches are on Sundays and when the juniors have fixtures they too tend to be on Sundays. As well as weekly league fixtures throughout the winter months, we also regularly take part in more relaxed summer leagues and weekend tournaments throughout the summer, including an annual mixed tournament in Holland normally during June.

Team Captains and their Vice Captains are responsible for team selection and arranging shared transport to away fixtures. If the match is at our home pitch (Purbeck Sports Centre) you are expected to make your own way there.

Players are expected to conduct themselves in a professional manner on and off the pitch, representing Swanage & Wareham Hockey Club as a friendly and fair club. The most important thing is to enjoy your game of hockey safely and have fun.

Training
Training for all abilities takes place every Wednesday (from August to May) at our home pitch at the Purbeck Sports Centre on the astroturf.
Juniors up to the age of 13 train from 18:30hrs until 19:30hrs.
Ladies training is from 7pm - 8.30pm
Men's from 7.30pm - 9pm.
Training normally consists of a variety of fun activities, skills and some match play. Our coaches put us all through our paces, ensuring they get best out of us at the weekend.

Umpires
Umpires are vital to the game of hockey and should be treated with courtesy both on and off the pitch. There are league guidelines concerning abusive behaviour towards umpires and these will be followed should the occasion arise. We do not however expect any of our club members or supporters to behave in an abusive manner at any time. If you would like to umpire with our club – whether qualified or not please get in contact, regular courses run in the area.

Refreshments and Social
After home matches refreshments are provided at The Kings Arms, Stoborough and at Allstars for Men's first team. This is an excellent time to socialise with your team-mates and the opposition and is a very important part of our club. Supporters are more than welcome.

Insurance
The Club pays for limited insurance as specified below: IT DOES NOT cover you for temporary disablement, time off work or minor injuries. It does however provide a minimal amount for a broken arm/leg and for emergency dental and optical treatment.

Cover
Third party cover if you accidentally injure another player. Also in the case of personal injury whilst engaged in a hockey match, practice or coaching organised or attended by the club, including travel to and from the activity (excluding travel by motorbike). This cover is for fatal accident, permanent disablement or loss of eyesight or limb only. (More details of the cover can be obtained from the Secretary). We therefore recommend that you take out your own personal insurance.

The Greater Scheme
The club is governed by England Hockey Rules and due to our unique location we belong to Hampshire Hockey Association, Dorset Hockey Association, South Hockey Association and West of England Hockey Association. County selection is available at all levels, male and female, young and old. We are very fortunate to play in a sport where players can compete well beyond the normal age of other sports.

Not only have we had players selected for U15, U17, U18, U21 and Senior County teams, we have also had slightly older players selected for the Veteran County sides to represent Dorset and West of England in tournaments throughout the country and look forward to this selection continuing.!
