3-1

On the 15th of February, the ladies 1st XI hosted West Meon in a rearranged fixture. Despite Dennis doing his very best, the game went ahead in the horrible conditions.

As per usual, Kate Black rocked up late, just in time to see the first pushback as she jogged to get changed in the dugout. From the outset, all the girls were dreaming of the pub. With some new windswept hairstyles, we won ourselves a short corner about 15 minutes in to the game - but not before poor Jill amazed us with some quality football skills, getting a whack on the ankle by the ball, retiring her to the bench for the remainder of the game. Our first goal came from a short corner when Captain fantastic Amy Lucas received the ball from Liz Solomon's perfect injection , which she then slapped towards goal. Technically it was not Amy's goal as it definitely took a deflection, but we won't tell her that bit.

Shortly after this, West Meon equalised from a counter attack which left poor Leah on the floor. Luckily we don't blame her for that, and it was covered by our own response the other end of the pitch from Liz. The goalkeeper came out to meet Liz's shot, which rebounded off her pad, hit her own defenders leg, and landed perfectly in front of goal for Liz to slot home Swans second of the game.

Going into the break 2-1 up felt great, but not as great as my favourite part of hockey - the yummy jelly babies. A hug for Maria and some words of encouragement later, we headed out to start the second half. Not an awful lot happened in the second half to make it exciting, but Evie fell over and she also attacked a lady with the ball. About 5 short corners had been won by the girls, when finally one was converted by Captain Amy leaving us 3-1 up at the end of the game.

Finally it was time for a warm shower and the pub!!!! A good home win keeps us at the top of the table and in the running for promotion!
