Swanage & Wareham (I) 5 - 1 Basingstoke (III)
Swanage & Wareham Ladies 1st XI delivered a commanding performance on home turf, making the most of perfect spring sunshine to secure a dominant 5–1 victory over Basingstoke.
From the first whistle, Swans looked sharp and in control, moving the ball confidently and setting the tempo early. It didn’t take long for the breakthrough, with Jess Meteau opening the scoring just six minutes into the first half, calmly finishing to give the hosts a deserved lead.
Sustained pressure soon paid off again as Swans earned a penalty corner. A slick routine saw Kate Black slip the ball to Charlotte GC, who struck cleanly into the backboard to double the advantage at 2–0.
Just before the half-time whistle, Kate Black capped off an excellent attacking display. Picking up the ball near the byline, she weaved past defenders with ease before slotting home from a tight angle to send Swans into the break 3–0 up and firmly in control.
The second half couldn’t have started better. Straight from the pushback, Swans surged forward with intent down the right-hand side. Great link-up play between Kate Thompson, Debbie Collinson, and Evie Binns put Basingstoke under immediate pressure, with Collinson perfectly placed to tap in at the post within the opening minute, extending the lead to 4–0.
To their credit, Basingstoke responded with resilience, breaking quickly up the pitch to pull a goal back and make it 4–1. However, Swans remained composed and continued to dictate play.
Their persistence was rewarded once more with a well-worked team move up the right side again, finished clinically by Jess Meteau, sealing an impressive 5–1 victory.
A strong, confident performance in ideal conditions sees Swanage & Wareham Ladies 1s take a brilliant three points.
