The game started unusually when Swans goalkeeper, Selby, was delayed and so Swans played the first 10 minutes without a goalkeeper, and with 10 men. Despite this, it was Swans who fired a warning shot across the Gosport bows when Paul Randall fired the ball across the Gosport goalkeeper and Pete Phillips could not get enough of the ball to guide it in.
Before the arrival of goalkeeper Selby, Swans had the tricky and unenviable task of defending a short corner with no keeper and no protective masks. Jack Thompson and Gavin Harris expertly denied the hosts following a shot on target.
Swans deservedly broke the deadlock from a short corner of their own. Paul Randall having time to pick out the bottom corner of the goal, and he made no mistake.
Less than 1 minute later a goalmouth scramble resulted in Gosport equalising, somewhat against the run of play. Equal at half time: 1-1.
The second half remained in deadlock until Angus Watt and Stuart Grenville-Cleave combined to release Randall in the D who produced a spectacular reverse stick shot into the roof of the net.
From that moment Swans were in control of the game. Gavin Harris at the heart of the defense made it very difficult to for Gosport to produce any dangerous play, and the young homegrown talent of Stuart Grenville-Cleave and Ethan Snell in the heart of midfield frustrated any possession that Gosport had.
Despite Ethan Snell receiving a green card and being temporarily down to 10 men, Peter Phillips set Paul Randall on a dangerous run around the back of the Gosport defense and he completed his hat-trick from an acute angle.
A deserved 3-1 win for Swans. Paul Randell and Gavin Harris were mentioned in despatches for game winning performances at either end of the field.
